People about Cosplay...
I think it is just fashion modeling in disguise. (pun intended)
Overall it is a harmless fun. As a creator (artist or writer) there is no greater honor than someone loving your show so much they would dress as your character and even try to be like them. Even against the possible ridicule.
Playing pretend can be fun. And it’s something everyone even families can engage.
But if you look at the most famous and successful cosplayers (as in Twitter famous) they are either:
A) People that could be modeling in mainstream modeling agencies.
This one is the category that gives more envy and disappointment to your average cosplayers. Of course they will get more attention even if your costume is more “comic/book” accurate or well done.
Like I said, cosplaying is basically fashion modeling. They look amazing and it’s nice to see models having a nerdy side.
B) People with awesome disguises that resemble the original show or movie.
In this category you’re judged by your amazing sewing skills.
So for being ultra famous you need to be one of those categories. But if not it’s just harmless fun you do with friends.
Think of it as early Halloween.
Sadly as a lawyer it isn’t professional for me to do this. But I respect people that do.
What is the appeal of acting, and even role playing for that matter? Cosplay is firstly an opportunity to completely put yourself into the character’s shoes, act out a role. Additionally it is a way to showcase your craftsmanship. Just because you view something as juvenile doesn’t make it unappealing. You should be criticizing community theatre if you have that view.
Personally I feel that cosplay gives an opportunity to also put aside your own shortcomings and be someone else for the day. I feel exceedingly confident and friendly in a costume and when I see someone else in a costume, I can “know” who they are and be recognized myself. There’s a level of comradery and confidence in it. Hope that helps.
Let me make it simple for you.
These are some factors which make this fun-filled activity very fascinated.
1) It is Fun
We are all fed up of real life sometimes, the animated world always considered as utopia and we like to experience that Utopian life as the way it is – funny and playful. It is entertaining and enjoyable.
You can express your love for the character which fascinates you. This is the best way to enjoy the fandom of a particular character that you really like it and want to hide your personality under the charm of whatever character.
People like to be a center of attention. Getting compliment on your creativity or catching the eyes of your friends towards famous movie character is always flattering.
We all like creativity, sometimes costumes are crafted by hand. The process includes sewing, cutting, using something completely different thing for entirely different purposes make you proud of cracking the unique idea that nobody ever think of.
